“A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.”

~ Oliver Wendell Holmes

Life is a process of exploring, learning, creating, learning some more, redefining and recreating. Websites are no different! www.WholeLifeVisions.com has been updated (more additions still to come) to add clarity to what Whole Life Visions is about and how we might work together. You're welcome to visit anytime.

I Wish I Worked for a Place Like That

Upon reading only a few words

in this book, people quickly respond, "I wish I worked for a place like that."

This book will show you how to create the type of workplace where your employees say, "I'm glad I work here."

What is a workplace community?

It's a unified body of individuals linked with common interests and shared values. People within communities interact, participate and support each others to achieve goals and overcome challenges.

With these themes

present in the workplace, who wouldn't gleefully enter their workday, knowing clearly the vision, their role, what actions to take and who to rely on for support?

There are many ways workplaces can foster this sense of community. It's about making a commitment to enhance the most valued asset of any business - the employees. And it doesn't always have to be driven by the owner or manager. Anyone can make a difference in the place you work by applying these ideas - even you!

Physical Activity Buddies

This summer, I was influenced by my physical activity buddies to compete in some triathlons and 70 and 50 mile bike rides with my oldest brother, (19 years older to be exact), Ralph. The best part about these events are the connections, time spent with cool people and a little exercise to boot!

Are you putting off being physically active?

Find some buddies and get movin'!

Encourage, laugh and have a good time.

Schedule events and goals on your calendar.

   (Check out www.Active.com)

Invite your buddies to do it with you.

Keep track of what you do - journal or calendar.

The Big Merger - Coaching & Wellness

Are you a wellness professional wanting to enhance program efforts

with coaching and you're wondering how?

Are you a wellness professional considering

coaching as a career?

I'm living proof that wellness and coaching are a match made in heaven! I've seen the benefits for individuals and organizations when coaching is incorporated with wellness and when wellness is incorporated with coaching.

My intention is to spread the power of coaching so that more people can benefit from this life changing experience.

This year's National Wellness Conference marked 3 years since my "ah-ha" moment to pursue coaching and start my own business. As the week of learning and reconnection with friends swiftly moved on, I realized something.

It was Wednesday. I was in a session about coaching with Dr. Patrick Williams. A light bulb went on in my head and I caught myself gasping among the quietness of the room. I realized I had been combining my background in wellness with coaching in organizations. I've been creating contracts that benefit employees and health promotion programs.

It dawned on me that not one but four people approached me that week and said, "Hey, I hear you're a wellness person turned coach...how did you do it?" They proceeded to tell me just what I remember saying a few years back when I discovered coaching was what I wanted to do with my life.

People also declared that they wanted to incorporate coaching into their wellness programs but didn't know how. They asked, "What's the practical, "how to" application and process to make this fly?"

“Ah-Ha” Moments - Kraft Vegemite

If you haven't had an "Ah-Ha" Moment in awhile. I encourage you to do something different. You never know what you'll discover when you give the new and unknown a try - like food. Here's my "Ah-Ha" Moment.

All kids (and adults) in Australia are raised on Kraft Vegemite, a versatile spread that once opened has a shelf life of 5 years! I'm told that it's a favorite spread on toast, topped with an egg and served with bacon (preferably not burnt, smoking bacon).

Until the offer to share a Vegemite Sandwich came from David Beurle of Innovative Leadership Australia, a world renowned expert on rural leadership and innovative development and consultant for the South Wood County Community Progress Initiative (www.progressinitiative.com), my only point of reference was a song.

Remember Men at Work, the wildly successful Australian band in the early 80's with such hits as "Who Can It Be Now" and "Down Under?" These lyrics from "Down Under" might free the cobwebs:

Buying bread from a man in Brussels
He was six foot four and full of muscles
I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich
And he said,

"I come from a land down under...YEAH!

Since much of the work I do with people involves their body movements, postures and gestures, I thought you might benefit from this simple activity.

Pay close attention to what physically happens with John, David and I as we partake in our first taste of a Vegemite Sandwich. Observe our response before, during and after Vegemite.

Can you tell which one is the Australian? David is the one in the middle who's enjoying this treat. Connie Loden from the Heart of WI and my best friend, Jodi Waltenberg, were the smart ones - they took the photos!

What new food or activity can you try that might

offer an "Ah-Ha" or at least a good laugh?

For a Good Time - Call Coach Jackie

"Many a false step is made by standing still."

~ Fortune Cookie

Yikes! I can't believe I just said that but it's true. Okay, let me explain. Most of us convince ourselves in one way or another that today might not be a "good" time to do the big and even little things you know would improve your life or business - like quitting smoking, decluttering, eating healthy, going for a walk, making a phone call, asking a question, having a conversation.

My coaching clients and people in general want to be healthier, more organized; they consider starting or expanding a business; others want to make adjustments in their relationships. From health to business to relationships, I hear and even catch myself saying, "This just isn't a good time."

Yes, there are certain things that make timing more appropriate

than others and patience is important. However, more often than not, we wait too long and the opportunity passes us by.

NOW just might be the time to make your move. If you're still not

sure call your coach and ask them.

Stubbornness, uncertainty, fear and many other obstacles keep us right where we are we.

As a wise person recently told me...at times it's necessary to "stand" in it but not always a good idea to "stay" in it.

Ask yourself:

How important is making a change to you?

When would be a better time?

Will it ever be any easier?

What resources will it take?
